Wednesday April 18, 2018

AAA Division:  Hartnell Astros vs. Hartnell Nationals @ 5:30 p.m. @ Claremont Park

Final:  Hartnell Astros  9  Hartnell Nationals  16

HARTNELL NATIONALS RALLY TO SCORE 13 RUNS IN THE 3RD, 4TH AND 5TH INNINGS EN ROUTE TO 16 - 9 VICTORY OVER ASTROS.

The Hartnell Astros and Hartnell Nationals battled this evening at the freezing confines of Claremont Park for the second time this season.  The Astros came out swinging in the first two innings as the Orange Crush offense piled up 6 runs in the first two innings against the formidable Nationals, knocking out Nationals starter Erin Uchida-Dohrmann early from the game.  Astros sluggers David Magat, Altie Ventura, Sean Campbell, and Evan Estrada collected singles in their first at-bats of the game during the run scoring rallies in the 1st and 2nd inning.  At one point, the Astros maintained a 7 - 2 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd.  Just when the Astros felt that they had a chance to hand the Nationals their first loss of the year, the Mighty Nats stepped up their game and handed the Astros a beat down.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Zachary Gonzales ignited his team's offense when he smashed a line drive to left-center field for a lead-off double.  Madden "The Hitting Machine" Eubanks knocked in Gonzales with an opposite field RBI single.  Erin Uchida-Dohrmann singled to join Eubanks on the bases.  Alex Alioto followed Uchida-Dohrmann by hammering the first pitch he saw and lining a shot down the left field line for a 2-RBI double .  Isaac Sigala singled and drove in Alex Alioto to narrow the Astros' lead to one run.  Sigala then scored on a single by Israel Zubiate to help the Nationals tie the game at 7 runs apiece.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Astros bounced back to regain the lead.  Sean Campbell earned a trip to first base after Nationals' southpaw reliever, Isaac Sigala, hit him with a  pitch.  Evan Estrada exercised patience at the plate and got on board with a walk.  With Campbell and Estrada on base, David Magat hit a routine ground ball to 2nd Baseman Alex Alioto.  Alioto fielded the ball cleanly and fired to 3rd base in an effort to force out Campbell, but Alioto's throw bounced to the right of 3rd Baseman Madden Eubanks and continued to bounce out of play, allowing Campbell to score.  With the score 8 - 7 in favor of the Astros, Ethan Moncada hit a hard grounder to Alioto at 2nd base.  Alioto ranged to his right and fielded the ground ball before he tossed the ball to Zachary Gonzales at 2nd base.  Estrada managed to score on the fielder's choice, staking the Astros to a 9 - 7 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Nationals bounced back to regain the lead.  Zachary Gonzales singled to drive in Ethan Zachary to narrow the Astros lead to one run.  Eubanks reached on an error, which allowed Gonzales to score the tying run.  With Eubanks on board, Erin Uchida-Dohrmann tripled to knock in Eubanks with the go-ahead run.  Alex Alioto followed Uchida-Dohrman by reaching base with a bunt single.  After a wild pitch, Erin Uchida-Dohrmann scored to pad the lead.  When all was said and done, the Nationals scored 9 unanswered runs to build a 16 - 9 lead.  Southpaw hurler Isaac Sigala held the Astros in check in relief and preserved the 16 - 9 victory over the Astros to keep the Nationals undefeated in 2018.
